Before commencing work on any construction site in Australia, workers are required to hold evidence of general construction induction under the applicable occupational health and safety laws of each state or territory jurisdiction.
Formally known in WA as the “Blue Card” and “Red Card” in VIC, this nationally recognised unit has been replaced by the “Construction Induction Card” or the “White card”. The course is aimed to provide participants with the essential knowledge and skills to work in a range of construction sites.
This nationally recognised unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to undertake Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) induction training within the construction industry. It requires the ability to demonstrate personal awareness of OHS legislative requirements, and the basic principles of risk management and prevention of injury and illness in the construction industry.
Content includes understanding OHS communication and reporting processes, applying the principals of risk management and identifying common hazards and control measures.
Face to face delivery. This highly practical course involves a theory assessment.
There are no formal prerequisites, however participants must have basic English skills.
On completion of the course, participants will be issued with an Interim Certificate, which is valid for a period of 60 days. Within the 60 days Worksafe will issue participants a card, which is sent out via mail.
