This course will enable participants to clearly understand the role of the Spotter as the safety observer to warn mobile plant operators and crane drivers in the proximity of powerlines and underground assets inclusive of communications, water, sewerage and power. This course is recognised by Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) and the Victorian WorkSafe Authority, as meeting the requirements for spotting near overhead and underground assets.
Assessing an emergency situation, legal and social responsibilities of the first aider, apply CPR, management of external bleeding, management of poisoning, bites and stings, shock, stroke, management of seizures, managing anaphylaxis, managing asthma, identifying and managing shock, and diabetes.
Role of the Spotter, ‘No Go’ Zones, safety assessment process, signalling procedures, types of powerlines, permit application process, height assessment, accident procedure process, OH&S Act 2004, SWMS development.
Where applicants already hold a valid first aid certificate, applicants may apply for a credit transfer on the first aid component of the course. This will require students to only attend the course for 1 day.

Only applicants who are registered as an Electrical Spotter with EnergySafe Victoria may perform spotting work. To be registered, applicants will also require at least one of the following:
Face to face delivery. To obtain accreditation in this course a written assessment will be given to participants
After successfully completing the course, a statement of attainment will be issued by Star Training and Assessing. A Spotters Registration Card from EnergySafe Victoria (ESV) will also be issued. (valid 3 years)
Note: After 3 years participants must attend a Spotters Refresher course to remain current or otherwise they will lose their licence to observe as a Spotter.
