This Elevated Work Platform Training or Boom Ticket Course will give you all the knowledge to gain your Elevated Work Platform Licence. There are several different EWP Licence requirements in Victoria, which include the WorkSafe EWP Licence. This type of licence can often be referred to as an EWP Licence, Boom Licence, Over 11m Boom Ticket, EWP ticket over 11 Metres.

Face to face delivery. The course involves a written knowledge, calculations and practical assessment.

Participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age, documentary evidence and proof of age is required before course commencement.

Participants must reside in Victoria.

Valid Government Issued Photo Identification will be required, please see ‘what to bring section’ for identification requirements.

Participants must have sufficient knowledge of the English language and basic numeracy skills to complete the written knowledge, calculations and practical assessment.

(This can include a Valid Drivers Licence, Valid Passport, Keypass or Proof of Age Card)

(Please note, due to WorkSafe requirements a Digital Drivers Licence or Digital Keypass cannot be accepted and students must bring their Valid Plastic Card).

  • High visibility vest or clothing (this can also be provided to you)
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be issued with an electronic copy of a Statement of Attainment and an electronic copy of your Notice of Assessment. High Risk Licences are now processed online. You will be required to create and/or log in to your myworksafe account to apply for your licence online within 60 days along with payment of the applicable fee payable to Worksafe. Failure to apply and lodge your High Risk Work Licence with WorkSafe within 60 days will require you to complete a full re-assessment at full cost.

Planning for work task
  • Task requirements and work area operating surface identified and assessed
  • Working area and EWP path inspected and hazard and risk control measures identified
  • EWP capabilities are established
  • Traffic management plan and communication procedures identified
Preparing for work/task
  • Consultation with workplace persons to ensure a safe work environment
  • Safety equipment including personal protective equipment (PPE) inspected and fitted correctly
  • EWP accessed in a safe manner
  • Pre-start checks carried out and any damage is reported, recorded and appropriate action is taken
  • EWP started, positioned and stabilised correctly.
  • All platform controls located and operational checks carried out
  • EWP log book is checked and assessed
  • Damage or defects reported and appropriate action taken
  • Weather and work environmental conditions assessed
Performing work/task
  • Relevant hazard control measures identified and implemented
  • EWP safely located and positioned correctly
  • Work gear and tools stowed and secured
  • Safe operation of EWP
  • Unplanned and unsafe situations are responded to
  • Communication signals implemented and interpreted
  • Parking, switching off and isolating EWP
Packing up
  • EWP shutdown procedures carried out including retracting, lowering, stowing and securing boom
  • Post-operational checks carried out on EWP
  • Relevant motion lacks and brakes applies and outriggers and/or stabilisers, plates and packing stowed and secures
  • EWP secured to prevent unauthorised use
The course includes knowledge, calculations and practical training in EWP operations. On successful completion of the following, you will have the knowledge and skills to operate the equipment in a safe manner and obtain a credible Boom lift ticket Victoria wide.

Knowledge Assessment – Includes a closed book written and calculations assessment. Study guides and a pre-assessment activity workbook will be sent to participants prior to the course.

Practical Assessment – Hazard identification and risk controls, pre-start inspections of EWP and fall arrest/fall restraint, operational checks, general operations including travel, set-up and conducting lifting operations, shutting down and securing EWP.
