This course is currently only available to Companies with a minimum number of 5 Students, however if there is a public course listed on our website, individuals can book into this session.
PLEASE READ BEFORE DECIDING TO BOOK THIS COURSE –
This Traffic Management Course is NOT SUITABLE for individuals working or intending to work for Traffic Control companies or individuals performing or intending to perform traditional traffic control duties, such as controlling traffic using a stop-slow bat.
It is important that anyone applying for this course understands that by completing this course they cannot work as a Traffic Controller, Traffic Management Implementer or Traffic Management Designer.
The types of activities that this training could be appropriate for are those that do not impact traffic flow (e.g., lane closures and speed reductions).
Individuals who may fit into this training category may not be eligible or required to obtain a National TTM qualification as they conduct less complex traffic management roles and responsibilities. This could include workers that may be defined as occasional users.
Occasional users may be defined as industry-based, paid workers wanting to conduct basic, often lower-risk traffic control for work purposes.
These workers are likely to know about basic hazards and risks when working near live traffic.
Any individual wishing to perform the duties listed above or who wishes to work for a Traffic Management Company as a Traffic Controller/Traffic Management Implementer, must complete the new Austroads Training Program (TC1/TMI1). (This course can be found on the first course tile on our website).
This course is designed for Short-Term Low Impact Worksites –
Short Term/Low Impact (STLI) works are those conducted without the assistance of accredited Traffic Management personnel, and in accordance with simplified Traffic Guidance Schemes. STLI deals specifically with those worksites which are of such a short nature and have sufficiently low impact that a site-specific risk assessment has determined that the work can be undertaken without the use of a Static Worksite.
For example, to determine whether a short-term low impact worksite is an appropriate traffic management measure –
If the works are to protect major construction or a deep excavation that will take hours or days, then a static worksite with barriers may be appropriate (see AGTTM Part 3). This is NOT a Short-Term, Low Impact Worksite.
However, if the works are minor in nature (e.g., pothole repairs, vegetation trimming) or can be performed quickly along multiple sites then a mobile (see AGTTM Part 4) short term, low impact worksite may be appropriate.
If the works are on a construction site that require Traffic Controllers to stop traffic to allow the entry and exit of construction vehicles. This is NOT a Short-Term, Low Impact Worksite.
Short Term, Low Impact Worksites generally comprise of –
- Minimal Plant
- Frequently Changing Area
- Short duration, generally a few hours or no longer than one day
- Clear of Traffic
Works SHALL NOT have –
- Speed limit changes
- Traffic controllers using stop-slow bats
- Tapers
- Unattended worksites
Before you book this course, please ensure you evaluate whether your worksite falls under this category to ensure legislative compliance for yourself and your worksite.
More information can be found in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
If you currently hold an existing temporary traffic management qualification and believe you fall into the STLI category, you can continue to perform your regular work activities under your existing qualification until it expires.
