What are the pre-requisites/entry requirements to undertake the Electrical Spotters Course?
- Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificates.(Applicants who meet the first aid unit credit transfer requirements will only need to attend the one-day spotters course).
- To qualify to spot an item of plant where no High-Risk Licence class applies
(excavator, front end loader, scissor lift, etc.), applicants must provide Proof of Competency (such as a Plant Operator Card or Statement of Attainment) on that specific piece of plant. - To qualify to spot an item of plant where a High-Risk Licence class applies (forklift, slewing mobile crane, elevated work platform (boom length over 11m, etc.), applicants must provide a current Licence to Perform High Risk Work on that specific piece of plant.
- To qualify to spot for tip trucks, applicants must provide a Light Rigid class Heavy Vehicle Licence or greater, or Haul Truck Proof of Competency.
- To qualify to spot on all items of plant, applicants must provide a current Licence to Perform High Risk Work for Dogging or Rigging.
How long does the Electrical Spotters Course take?
The Electrical Spotters Course either runs over one or two days.
If you do not hold a current First Aid Certificate or CRP Certificate then you will be required to attend a First Aid/CPR Course.
The Spotters Course itself runs over one full day. The day starts with theory modules, then transitions into hands-on practice to bring everything together.
After successful completion, you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment from Star Training & Assessing. Then provided you have all the required evidence of holding plant tickets/licences, ESV will send you your official Spotters Registration Card, which remains valid for three years.
