Responding to emergency situations –
  • Recognising emergency situations
  • Identifying, assessing and managing Immediate health and safety hazards
  • Assessing the casualty and recognising the need for first aid response
  • Assessing the situation and seeking assistance from emergency response services
Applying appropriate first aid procedures –
  • Performing CPR in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines
  • Providing first aid with established first aid principles, including abdominal injuries, allergic reaction, anaphylaxis, basic care of a wound, bleeding control, burns, cardiac conditions, including chest pain, choking and airway obstruction, crush injuries, diabetes, dislocations, drowning, envenomation, environmental impact including hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration and heat stroke, eye and ear injuries, fractures, febrile convulsions, head, neck and spinal injuries, minor skin injuries, needle stick injuries, poisoning and toxic substances, respiratory distress, including asthma, seizures, including epilepsy, shock, soft tissue injuries, including strains and, sprains, stroke, and unconsciousness
  • Obtaining consent form casualty and displaying respectful behaviour
  • Using and operating available resources and equipment during incident
  • Monitoring and responding to the casualty’s condition
Communicating details of the incident –
  • Accurately conveying incident details to emergency response services
  • Reporting details of incident to workplace supervisor
  • Maintaining confidentiality of records and information
Evaluating the incident and own performance –
  • Realising possible psychological impact of incident to self and others
  • Participating in debriefing to address individual needs
