Location

At an organised training facility in Horsham

Face to face delivery. The course involves a theory and practical assessment.
The minimum age to obtain a Yellow Card is 16 years (subject to each state regulatory body). Applicants under 18 years of age will have a Restricted Yellow Card issued, marked with an ‘R’, and will need to operate under direct supervision. The minimum age to obtain an EWP (>11m) High Risk Work Licence is 18 years.

  • Unique Student Identifier (USI)
  • Closed toe shoes

Upon successful completion of your Yellow Card course, you will be issued a wallet card and an electronic copy of a Statement of Attainment.

An interim record of training from the EWPA will be emailed to you on the day of training and this can be used when operating machinery until you receive the yellow card.
Your Yellow Card will then be processed and posted to your home address.
If you have not received your card, contact the EWPA before 60 days to have a card re-issued free of charge, after 60 days you will need to pay a $30 card re-issue fee.

Planning and preparing for operating an elevating work platform

  • Accessing, interpreting and applying elevating work platforms documentation for allocated job and ensuring work activity is compliant with site policies and procedures to perform the work as planned
  • Obtaining, interpreting, clarifying and confirming work requirements
  • Confirming hazards, environmental issues, and risks, and implementing required control measures according to site risk management plans and processes
  • Selecting and wearing personal protective equipment required for work activities
  • Obtaining and interpreting emergency procedures for elevating work platform in preparation for emergencies and incidents
  • Coordinating and communicating planned activities with others at the site prior to commencing work activity

Operating elevating work platform in line with established requirements to complete work activity

  • Carrying out pre-start and post-start inspections and checks in line with Australian Standards and workplace procedures
  • Identifying faults or defects and reporting within scope of own responsibility and according to workplace procedures
  • Applying site specific requirements for relocating the elevating work platform to work site
  • Stabilising or positioning elevating work platform according to work site conditions and requirements
  • Ensuring work site is clear of personnel and other potential hazards
  • Placing any tools and equipment required to perform work activity into bucket or platform according to workplace procedures
  • Operating elevating work platform within performance capabilities of brand and model of elevating work platform
  • Using manufacturer approved safety devices fitted to the machine in line with workplace procedures where applicable
  • Responding accordingly to monitoring systems and alarms according to workplace procedures
  • Monitoring hazards and risks and ensuring safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment
  • Completing work activity and shutting-down equipment in line with work requirements and workplace procedures

Conducting housekeeping activities

  • Clearing work area and disposing, reusing or recycling materials
  • Moving the elevating work platform to a safe space, applying site specific workplace procedures and requirements
  • Checking, cleaning, maintaining and storing elevating work platform, tools and equipment according to workplace procedures
  • Completing and filing documentation, and distributing according to workplace requirements

Yellow Card Training

The Yellow Card Training Program has been designed for people needing to develop the skills and knowledge required to operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs or commonly known as EWPs).

While the Yellow Card is not a nationally recognised Unit of Competency. This course will also cover the National Unit of Competency RIIHAN301E Operate an Elevated Work Platform and a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued to students free of charge.

This course fulfils the requirement to show proof of competency in the operation of various types of Elevated Work Platforms such as:

BL – Self-Propelled Boom-Type EWP’s (with a boom length of less than 11metres)
SL – Scissor Lifts
VL – Vertical Lifts

FOR ON-SITE ASSESSMENTS, ALL TYPES OF EWP’S CAN BE ASSESSED DEPENDANT ON THE WORK-SITE PROVIDING EACH TYPE OF EWP AS REQUIRED.

It is important to note that this training course does not cover the requirements to operate a boom-type EWP with a height or reach of 11 metres or more. A High-Risk Work licence class WP will be required to operate this type of Elevated Work Platform.
