Having relevant certificates and qualifications can go a long way with getting your foot in the door and on track to a new career path. Courses and certificates can vary in length from 1 day, to 1 week, to 1 year. Star Training offers a variety of courses in the building and construction industry that could get your foot in the door of many different industries.

Work with what you’ve got
By 40 you’ve been worked for more than two decades, you’re bound to have learnt a thing or two! The skills that you’ve learnt can be applied to numerous jobs. Consider what you’re good at and what you enjoy, many skills required for one job are also necessary for another.
Call your contacts
By 40 you likely know many people in many industries. Keep an ear out for anyone in your network that may be requiring assistance or have any relevant roles coming up that you can lend a hand with.
Be prepared to work hard
Like any new career path, regardless of your age, you’ll likely have to start at an entry level in order to learn everything you need to know. The good news is that with all of your life experience, transferable skills and previous knowledge, you’ll likely climb the ladder a lot faster than a junior!

Maybe you don’t enjoy what you’re doing any more, maybe it’s too physically demanding, or maybe you just think to hell with it, I fancy a change!

Regardless of your reasons for exploring new career options, there are a variety of avenues out there, regardless of your age, so don’t wait any longer to pursue that career you’ve been thinking of for a while!
