Be up to date with industry requirements
To work on a construction site in Australia, the government have made it a compulsory requirement that you must hold a construction induction card (also known as a white card).
A white card must be obtained through a RTO (Registered Training Organisation).
The course can be sat before you have been guaranteed a job in the construction industry and the card does not expire as long as you don’t have more than a 2 year break from working in the construction industry, making it a valuable investment if you are considering construction jobs.
Strengthen your skills
A construction induction card is a basic requirement for working in the construction industry but there are many other training courses that you can do that require no previous experience to make you more desirable to an employer.
For example you could obtain your Working at Heights, Confined Space or Elevated Platform tickets, as well as many others, all of which are in demand for construction roles.
Use your contacts
Now is the time to touch base with any contacts you have in the construction industry and mention that you would be keen for some work if any suitable roles come up.
